Privacy
Clasps is a catalogue of things you own and where you keep them. That is sensitive, and this page explains plainly what the app collects, where it goes, and what never leaves your control.
What you put in
Photographs of your pieces, their names, stories, provenance, materials, values, receipts and appraisals, storage locations, wear history, estate intentions, and a wish list. You add these yourself; none are required beyond a name.
Your account holds your email address. The profile fields — name, phone, birthday — are optional and exist only to head the reports you generate and to reach you about the service.
Where it is stored
Your records sync to a database hosted by Supabase, in the United States, protected by row-level security so only your signed-in account can read them, and encrypted at rest and in transit. On the free tier your full-resolution photographs stay on your phone and only small thumbnails are stored in the cloud. On Clasps Deluxe, display-size copies are stored in the cloud so a new phone can restore them. The originals you photographed never leave your phone unless you export them.
Values and storage locations are treated as the most sensitive fields in the app. They sit behind Face ID or your passcode every time they are opened.
Photographs and AI
When you add a piece, Clasps can draft a name and a description from your photographs. To do that, downsized copies of those photographs are sent over an encrypted connection to our server and on to Anthropic’s Claude model, which returns the draft. The photographs are not stored by our server or used to train any model. You can edit or discard the draft, and the feature is skipped if you are offline.
Anonymous usage signals
Clasps records anonymous usage signals: which features get used, how many pieces get added, which version of the app is running, and any errors it runs into. These are tied to a random device identifier, never to your name, your email, your photographs, or anything about your pieces, and nobody at Clasps can see your collection. Raw signals are deleted after 24 months.
What Clasps never does
- No advertising, on any tier, and no data shared with advertisers.
- No selling of personal information.
- No access to your photo library beyond the pictures you choose.
- No reading of your collection by anyone at Clasps.
Payments
Clasps Deluxe is billed by Apple through the App Store. Clasps never sees your card details. Cancel any time in your Apple account settings.
Your choices
Export your whole collection, photographs included, from More › Export a spreadsheet. Delete your account from Profile, which removes your records and cloud photographs. Write to us with any question.
